Doing was a Portland-based startup creating a digital marketplace of local experiences, joining together discovery, promotion and booking of events. I worked closely with them to design and build their beta app from the ground up. Our approach was mobile-first but the final product was a fully responsive webapp.
My roles: Brainstorming and needs discovery, rough wireframes, full designs and interactive prototype, and working with development to launch the beta.
Process
I began by documenting all of the product requirements, ideas, concerns and hopes. We decided which features to package in which release and had many planning sessions to discuss our long-term roadmap and vision. After I had a solid understanding of the requirements, I created wireframes to help visualize our plan. I spent a lot of time in the wireframe stage further planning and walking through the user experience. I iterated often and used print outs and whiteboards to collaborate and refine. After that, I began to flesh out the wireframes and design a fresh, modern aesthetic that allows the content to take center stage.
